IPL 2017 Match 17 Result : Rising Pune Supergiant won by 27 runs

Shardul Thakur and Ben Stokes transformed Rising Pune Supergiant’s weakest link by claiming three wickets each to hand Royal Challengers Bangalore a 27-run defeat in their IPL clash on Sunday.

In a match billed as a clash of captains — Virat Kohli versus Steven Smith —- the Australian emerged victorious after the mighty batting line-up of the home team caved in meekly to silence a packed M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB bowlers seemed to have done their job after Virat Kohli elected to field first on winning the toss as Rising Pune Supergiant slid to 130 for 7 in 17.2 overs, but Manoj Tiwary took charge and hammered 27 off 11 balls to take his team to a challenging total.

RPS finished on 161 for eight before restricting Royal Challengers Bangalore 134/9.

Although the odds were still against them, all-rounder Ben Stokes, Thakur and left-arm paceman Jaydev Unadkat shared eight wickets to upstage RCB.

Stokes had Kohli caught by Ajinkya Rahane in the deep for a 19-ball 28 after Thakur, the Mumbai paceman, had got rid of the other opener, Mandeep Singh, for a duck.

Bangalore were down to 70/3 after leg spinner Imran Tahir had AB de Villiers, also well-set on 29, stumped by MS Dhoni before the Rising Pune Supergiant bowlers chipped away at the middle-order.

IPL 2017, Match 17 Preview : Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rising Pune Supergiants

Royal Challengers Bangalore look to regain momentum against Rising Pune Supergiant at home

The second match of the double header on a super Sunday is between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rising Pune Supergiant. Both the teams are looking to gain their momentum back in the competition. With just one win in their last four games, RCB are placed third from the bottom in the points table while Pune are sitting at the bottom. Though, this is a home game for RCB but still they need to work upon some areas to get positive results. The home advantage didn’t help them in their last outing against Mumbai Indians even after getting a perfect start while defending.

RCB VS RPS Match 17 IPL 2017

What’s in the kitty

Virat Kohli is back and he is back with a bang. Smashing a flamboyant half century in his first match of the IPL 10, Kohli announced his comeback and he would be looking to keep this form going. Other than him is Samuel Badree whose hattrick in the previous game gave RCB franchise a perfect start while defending.

Rising Pune Supergiant on the other side are looking for a match which can release pressure from themselves. MS Dhoni’s bat hasn’t produced the kind of scoring he is capable of till now and the pressure will be on him to perform. The track at M Chinnaswamy Stadium may help him to get back into the scheme of  things.

IPL 2017, Match 9 Result: Centurion Sanju powers Daredevils to their biggest-ever win

PUNE: Sanju Samson‘s measured 63-ball 102, followed by a thunderous nine-ball 38 by Chris Morris helped Delhi Daredevils set a huge target of 206 which proved too much for hosts Rising Pune Supergiant at the MCA Stadium in Gahunje on Tuesday. Pune’s innings never got going and they were all out for 108 in the 17th over to lose by a whopping 97 runs, giving Daredevils their first win of the season.

Delhi amassed 2054 with 76 runs coming in the last four overs. Pune lost wickets at regular intervals and never threatened Daredevils. Delhi captain Zaheer Khan was his wily self, bowling a perfect length to restrict the Pune batsmen and returning with figures of 3-0-20-3. He prised out Pune openers Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal to derail the chase quite early.

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem was bowled economically, giving away only 23 in his four overs to make things more difficult for the Supergiant. Veteran leggie Amit Mishra took advantage of a slumping Supergiant by claiming three wickets late in the innings and returned with impressive figures of 3-0-11-3.

Earlier, Rahane, who came in for the toss as regular skipper Steve Smith was out due to a tummy upset, won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Samson, who has often been accused of not living up to his tremendous potential, finally played a knock which showcased his prowess.

IPL 2017, Match 9 : Both teams look to bounce back after disappointing defeats

Rising Pune Supergiant will surely start favourites given the depth in their batting line-up. But Delhi Daredevils have some good set of all-rounders and cannot be taken for granted as well.

Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) take on Delhi Daredevils (DD) in Match 9 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 at Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), Pune. Both DD and RPS lost their previous matches. While DD lost their opening match by 15 runs to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), RPS suffered a 6-wicket loss at the hands of Glenn Maxwell-led Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Both teams, as a result, will look to bounce back with a win. However, RPS won their first match of the tournament against Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets, thanks to a spectacular innings from skipper Steven Smith. DD, who have played just one game so far, came close to beating RCB, but some excellent death-bowling cost them the match.

DD have been affected by injuries. Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy had pulled out of the tournament before it began. But with Angelo Mathews (thigh injury) and Shreyas Iyer (chicken pox) ruled out for some time as well, their problems continue to worsen. But they have a talented squad and capable of pulling off thrillers. Their bowlers did a fine job to restrict Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to just 157, that too at Chinnaswamy. But their batsmen, barring Rishabh Pant, failed to put up a good show. Pant fought a lone battle, but RCB were too good in the end. DD managed to score just five runs in the final two overs as a result.
