Aaron Finch left out of Gujarat Lions’ IPL clash vs MI for this bizarre reason

Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch of Gujarat Lions arrives for the 2017

In what could be termed as one of he most bizarre reasons to miss a match, Gujarat Lions’ overseas batsman Aaron Finch could not feature in their IPL-10 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday as the Australian did not have his kit bag with him.

Finch’s kit bag did not reach on time from Rajkot for MI clash and had to be dropped from the playing XI.

The reason was revealed by Gujarat Lions’ skipper Suresh Raina at the time of toss.

This is perhaps the most absurd reason to miss a match one has heard in recent times.

Finch’s participation in the match may have been prevented due sponsor commitments. Finch could have easily borrowed cricketing gears from his teammates, but his commercial deal with a bat company may not have allowed him to play the match.

Finch has scored 51 runs in three matches. The Aussie played a crucial role with skipper Raina in the last match to see the team through safely, chasing Rising Pune Supergiant’s score of 171/8 and pocket their first win of IPL-10.

IPL 2017 Match 16 Result : Mumbai Indians record 4th consecutive successful chase with win over Gujarat Lions

Mumbai: Skipper Rohit Sharma found some form going his way as he anchored Mumbai Indians to a six-wicket victory over Gujarat Lions on Sunday.

Chasing a tricky target of 177, skipper Rohit remained unbeaten on 40 off 29 balls with Mumbai Indians knocking off the target with three balls to spare.

The popular franchise maintained their pole position with four wins in five matches with the only defeat coming against Rising Pune Supergiant.

Nitish Rana IPL 2017

Mumbai’s Nitish Rana scored a match-winning 53 against Gujarat Lions.

Lions, on the other hand, have now lost three out of their four games and are languishing at the second last position in the eight-team table.

Credit should also be given to Nitish Rana (53 off 36 balls), who set the platform with another matured effort.

Kieron Pollard (39 of 23 balls) also did his bit with some lusty blows to make it easier for the skipper to add finishing touches.

Needing eight runs off the last over, Rohit guided a yorker past the keeper to take the pressure off. A couple of twos sealed it as the skipper looked relieved having gone through a bad patch since the start of the event.

MI vs GL match 16 IPL 2017

However, Gujarat will hope to play spoilsport and keep their run of form going after winning its last match. Their famed batting line-up is in fine form. The likes of Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina and Aaron Finch all came good in the last match. Hence, both the teams have a powerful batting line-up and this may very result in a high scoring game. As far as bowlers are concerned MI will be boosted with the presence of Lasith Malinga. After missing Mumbai Indians’ previous match due to illness, Lasith Malinga is expected to be back in the playing XI for the game against Gujarat Lions.

Also in each of MI’s three wins, the Pandya brothers have played a crucial role. They are the x-factor of the home team as their contributions have resulted in wins. MI will hope Krunal and Hardik can continue doing that in this game as well.
