Delhi Daredevils vs Lions Post Match Presentation Semi-Final CLT20 2012
Category: Champions League News,Champions League T20 Cricket,CLT20 Delhi Daredevils,CLT20 Highveld LionsNeil McKenzie: ‘I thought Bodi and Alviro gave us a good stand upfront, we lost our way slightly and I felt we ended up 10 runs short. All our bowlers were superb, each one of those deserved the MoM award. It was very windy out there and we did well in the field. I think the bowlers deserve every bit of credit for their performance. We will play the finals in front of our home crowd and look to do well there.’
Neil Mckenzie is the MoM
Petersen: ‘I thought 139 was a par score on this pitch. I wanted them to put up 90% effort and they nearly came around 85%. Morris was outstanding, he broke the vital stand. Neil’s experience and his partnership with Gulam was very important. Our batting still needs to improve. Playing in the Wanderers is great, that too in a massive tournament like this.’
Ross Taylor: ‘We let ourselevs down in the field, probably gave away 20-25 runs extra. Credit to the Lions, the target was very gettable, they took early wickets and kept a lid on the things. We played only 3 games in the whole campaign and could not get our momentum going. We have the IPL coming up in the next few months and will look to do well.’

Taylor: ‘We’ll bowl first. It might rain. It’s very similar to New Zealand. Hopefully we can get some early wickets and use the conditions. Mahela thought this was the best team for this game. Warner is playing.’
Alviro: ‘It’s quite difficult to bat second, so we’re pretty happy. We have played good cricket and won key moments in the games. We’ve been playing at 75% of our potential and I’ve asked the guys to play to at least 90% of our potential. We remain unchanged as far as the team composition goes.’

Delhi Daredevils’ batting might would be put through a stern test by the consistent bowling attack of Highveld Lions when the two sides clash in the first semifinal of the Champions League Twenty20 on Thursday.
While the Daredevils finished their league engagements unbeaten and on top of Group A after two wins and a couple of washouts, the Lions ended second in group B with three victories and a loss from their four preliminary matches.
Delhi are the only IPL side left in contention after three others were knocked out in the group stage itself. The Lions, on the other hand, are one of the two South African sides, the other being Titans, to have reached the semifinals.
Delhi’s strength lies in its power-packed batting line-up which boasts of proven match-winners such as Virender Sehwag, skipper Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor.
Rising star Unmukt Chand makes it perhaps the best top-five in the tournament.
But the team looked vulnerable the last time weather permitted it to come out in the middle, against Perth Scorchers. Had it not been for a uncharacteristically patient half century by Sehwag, Delhi did stare at defeat against the Scorchers.
David Warner has been warming the benches in this tournament and he will be itching to have a go in case the team management decides to include him in the line-up.
On the bowling front, Delhi’s attack looks decent spearheaded by Irfan Pathan and Morne Morkel. The young Umesh Yadav has come good and so has veteran all-rounder Ajit Agarkar, who seems to be rediscovering his form.
The Lions, on the other hand, have been relying on their enterprising bowling to carve out wins.
“We always thought we can make it to the semis and even the final. The guys have been working hard since April, when we lost the final of the MiWay T20 Cup to the Titans. So, it’s not a surprise that we’re in semi-finals; we were expected to do well,” said left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso, who has eight wickets in four matches at an economy rate of 4.43.
The only match in which the left-arm pairing of Sohail Tanvir and Dirk Nannes went for runs was against clinical Sydney Sixers.
But they returned to the forefront with a good performance against Yorkshire in their final group match. In the spin department, Phangiso has shown incredible temperament in all his four outings.
The 28-year-old spinner will be high on confidence and poses a serious threat to the Delhi batsmen.
On the batting front, Alviro Petersen, Quinton de Kock and Neil McKenzie are the three main characters in the Lions plans.
Gulam Bodi played a couple of good knocks to start with but came a cropper against Yorkshire and he would look to raise his game in the big game. (PTI)

The only IPL team left in contention, table-toppers Delhi Daredevils will aim to officially seal what seems like a sure-shot semifinal berth but will face stiff challenge from home favourites Titans in their final Group A encounter.
Delhi huffed and puffed their way to a narrow win over Perth Scorchers in their previous match, going atop the table in the process with 10 points.
Titans, beaten comprehensively by laggards Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match, are second in the standings with eight points.
Both the teams are best-placed to advance from the group and tomorrow’s result will decide which of the two finishes better in the points table.
The two sides head into contest with their confidence shaken in contrasting manner. While Delhi’s batting depth was tested to the core by the ousted Perth Scorchers, Titans were quite literally demolished by another ousted side KKR.
In pursuit of 122, Delhi lost Mahela Jayawardene, Unmukt Chand, Kevin Pietersen and Ross Taylor to single-digit scores and it was left to Virender Sehwag to steer the team through.
In fact, Sehwag getting a good knock was a big positive for Delhi and the batsman himself. The 34-year-old batted sensibly, held one end firm and ensured that he did just enough to steer Delhi.
Another positive for Delhi was veteran all-rounder Ajit Agarkar, who was named man of the match for his fine display.
His economical four overs fetched Delhi a couple of wickets and cost just 14 runs.
South African pacer Morne Morkel was also quite a success as far as bowling miserly was concerned even though he did not take any wickets.
The Titans, on the other hand, were mauled by KKR.
Chasing 189, they folded for 89 with just three of their batsmen managing double-digit scores.
The opening pair of Jacques Rudolph and Henry Davids has given their team good starts in the first two matches — they added 104 against the Perth Scorchers and then followed it up with a stand of 74 against the Auckland Aces.
Their failure against KKR proved quite decisive and they will have to come good against Delhi for the Titans to have any chance of upstaging Delhi.
Key pacer Alfonso Thomas, who went for 52 runs against KKR, also needs to get his act together as Delhi has a devastating batting line-up capable of tearing apart the best of attacks. (PTI)
